Glock magazines interchange more than most platforms — but only within the right caliber and frame family, and only in one direction. Here's exactly which Glock mags fit which Glocks.
The Two Rules That Govern Everything
- Caliber must match the magazine body. 9mm and .40 S&W magazines are not interchangeable — the feed lips and body width differ.
- Bigger frame mags work in smaller frames, not the reverse. A full-size magazine runs in a compact or subcompact of the same caliber (it just sticks out the bottom). A subcompact mag will not feed reliably in a full-size grip.

This downward compatibility is why a G26 is such a flexible carry gun — it takes every larger 9mm Glock magazine you already own.
.40 S&W Compatibility (G22 / G23 / G27 family)
Same downward logic, different caliber: G22 (full) → G23 (compact) → G27 (subcompact). A Glock 23 .40 S&W 13-round magazine runs in a G23 or a G27; a G22 15-round mag runs in all three. 9mm mags do not work in these.
The Slimline Exception: G43, G43X, G48
The single-stack/slim lineup is its own world. The original G43 uses a 6-round mag. The G43X and G48 share a longer slim mag (10-round) — and those interchange with each other, but not with the G43 or the double-stack guns. Aftermarket options like the Shield Arms Z9 steel 9-round magazine boost the G43's capacity significantly.
