Short answer: not as a swap. A Glock 19 slide will physically go onto a Glock 17 frame, and a Glock 17 slide onto a Glock 19 frame, but neither is a drop-in swap and Glock does not support either one. Buy the slide that matches your frame model and generation.

Can You Put a Glock 19 Slide on a Glock 17 Frame?
Not as a swap. A same-generation Glock 19 slide will go onto the rails of a Glock 17 frame, but the G17 frame's dust cover sticks out about half an inch past the shorter slide. On Gen 3 and Gen 4, the G17 and G19 also use different locking blocks and barrels, so reliable cycling isn't expected. On Gen 5 the two share a locking block, so it may cycle, but it is still not a factory setup and the frame still sticks out. If you want a G19-length slide on a full-size grip, use a frame built for it (see below).
What About the Glock 45 and 19X?
This is where the confusion comes from. The Glock 45 and Glock 19X pair a compact-length slide with a full-size grip. Glock describes the 19X as having a full-size Glock 17 frame, and it does share the G17's grip length and 17-round magazines — but the dust cover and rail are shortened to Glock 19 length, so a Gen 5 Glock 19-length slide sits flush. They are factory configurations, not a standard Glock 17 frame wearing a Glock 19 slide. The Glock 47 frame is built the same way. If you own a G45 or G19X, buy Gen 5 slides made for that model.
Can You Put a Glock 17 Slide on a Glock 19 Frame?
Not as a drop-in swap. On Gen 5, a Glock 17 slide will mount and cycle on a same-generation Glock 19 frame with its stock barrel, because the Gen 5 G17 and G19 share a locking block — but the front of the recoil spring sits exposed past the shorter frame, and Glock doesn't support the setup. On Gen 3 and Gen 4, the G17 barrel won't lock up correctly in a G19 frame; that conversion needs a "19L" extended barrel and usually a dust-cover adapter. In every case, the slide and frame must be the same generation. The simple rule still applies: match the slide to the frame.
Which Slides Do Swap?
- Glock 19 and Glock 23 (and Glock 17 and Glock 22) share a frame size, so a complete, caliber-matched upper — slide, barrel, extractor and recoil spring all one caliber — mounts on the other frame of the same generation. You can't turn a 9mm slide into a .40 by changing the barrel. The frame's ejector (trigger housing) and your magazines must match the upper's caliber, a .40 upper needs a 3-pin frame, and Glock does not factory-support cross-caliber swaps.
- Glock 43 and Glock 43X take the same slide. The 43X and 48 share a frame, so a complete G48 upper fits a 43X frame and a complete 43/43X upper fits a G48 frame. The G48 slide itself is longer and won't replace a 43/43X slide part-for-part.
- Generation should match — a Gen 3 slide fits Gen 2 and Gen 3 frames of the same model and also mounts on Gen 1 (have a Gen 1 or early Gen 2 pistol checked by a gunsmith first). Gen 4 fits Gen 4, Gen 5 fits Gen 5. Cross-generation combinations range from “mounts with caveats” to “doesn’t fit,” and none is a direct swap.
