The Wheeler AR-15 Upper Receiver Lapping Tool squares the face of an AR-15 upper receiver before you install a barrel. It runs on a battery-powered or electric drill through a flex driver shaft.
A receiver face that is not square to the bore can leave the barrel extension seated unevenly. Lapping the face flat gives the barrel an even, square seat, which helps the gas tube line up through the barrel-nut holes and helps line up front and rear A2-style sights.

Work slowly with light pressure and check the face often. Remove only enough material to get an even contact pattern, then clean all lapping residue from the receiver before assembly.
