This 5-pack of timing shims is for indexing a .223/5.56 AR-15 free-float barrel nut. The shims let you align the gas-tube hole and handguard while staying inside torque spec, so you do not have to over-torque the nut just to clock it correctly.
On many free-float builds, the barrel nut reaches minimum torque with the gas-tube hole out of line. Adding a shim behind the nut changes where it lands in its rotation, so you can bring the hole into alignment within the recommended torque range instead of forcing it past spec. Start with a single shim and add more only as needed to reach alignment.
